Senior Backend Engineer - API Platform
About the Role
Our APIs power everything: the matching algorithm, client integrations, and partner ecosystem. We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to design and build APIs that are fast, reliable, and a joy to use.
You'll work on high-impact features: search and filtering for 10,000+ engineer profiles, webhook systems for real-time notifications, and integrations with major ATS platforms.
What You'll Do
- Design and implement APIs for core platform functionality
- Build integrations with third-party systems (ATS, HRIS, calendaring)
- Optimize API performance: caching, query optimization, connection pooling
- Implement comprehensive API monitoring and alerting
- Write clear API documentation and developer guides
- Participate in on-call rotation for API reliability
- Review code and mentor junior engineers
- Contribute to API design standards and best practices
What We're Looking For
- 6+ years of backend engineering experience
- Strong Node.js/TypeScript skills (our primary backend stack)
- Experience designing RESTful APIs and understanding of GraphQL
- PostgreSQL expertise: performance tuning, complex queries, migrations
- Experience with caching strategies (Redis) and queue systems
- Understanding of API security: rate limiting, authentication, authorization
- Experience with API documentation (OpenAPI/Swagger)
- Familiarity with observability tools (Datadog, New Relic, or similar)
What We Offer
- Base salary: $170,000 - $210,000 depending on experience
